Autumn leave

We will be taking a short autumn break and take care of family matters. No orders will be processed between Nov 11th and Nov 27th, 2005. All orders placed until 6pm Japan time on Thursday, November 10th will be fulfilled as normal, all others after the 27th.

Thank you for your understanding.

UPDATE: we’re back and continue taking and processing orders. Thank you.

Happy birthday

Megaperls Webshop turns one year old today! Big thanks go out to everyone who browsed, purchased, linked, recommended and inquired. In fact, October saw so much traffic, that for a period of 12 hours or so this site went unavailable due to all bandwidth of the hosting package been used for the first time. Apologies for the disruption, but it came as a surprise and the bandwidth limits are increased as a consequence.

It has been a successful year with several hundreds of customers and shippings to four continents of the globe. We have not had a single lost package or other problem in all that time, which is something I am particular proud of.

We continue to expand the selection. There has never been a better time to enjoy film photography, despite the gloomy news from other places (Agfa, Ilford, Kodak). Japan is still going strong, and with the very favourable exchange rates at the moment with US Dollar and Euro at a high, this is THE time to shop and stock up on film and other material.

Thank you for your patronage and trust since November 2004.

Oriental fibre paper

Oriental Seagull is a well-known and high quality black & white printing paper made in Japan, that has been available for many years. We have updated our selection with the addition of Oriental New Seagull VC-FB paper. This double weight paper is fibre-based, variable contrast and has a smooth/glossy surface. We have added three different paper sizes, but please feel free to ask for other sizes. At this point shipping rates are estimates only and you will be refunded any difference.

The slow summer seems to be over and I am pleased to see new orders are coming in steadily. Unlike the hot summer, autumn is a great season to go out and shoot and I tend to do the same myself. Enjoy!

Fuji Acros, rated EI 50 in my new Jobo sheet film drum, 18min in Rodinal

One of the reasons I love large format photography more and more. Hard work, but when it all works out it can really take your breath away. First time I used Rodinal on Acros from my usual Xtol. It seems to work very well. I must try again. I have also finally bought a motor base for the drum which should arrive soon, so there is no longer a need to rotate the drum myself for almost 20 minutes.

Posting is getting a little sparse here, I know. But in a way there is so much and so little to say at the moment. I am still working on photo matters, but time seems scarce right now and priorities prevail.

Future plans include a business trip to London next week and acquiring an iBook once the new models are out (any day now), so I can write on the train. I have changed commuting route last week, so I have a seat every morning and don’t need to change trains. This gives me an extra hour to answer email, maintain the shop etc. Talking of the web shop, it is very quiet in July, after a record month in June. I suppose people purchased for their holidays and now they are gone.

Enjoy the summer everybody!

Summer is here

June was a record-breaking month for the web shop. Thanks to everyone who ordered and gave their comments. July is very slow, so I suppose all of you are on holiday and snapping away.

Enjoy the summer everybody!

I will be travelling myself from end of July and the first week of August, so expect a slight delay when placing your order.

RIP RVP

The end of a long and good relationship is always painful. Velvia 50 (RVP 50) has now officially reached its end of life and is replaced worldwide by Velvia 100 and 100F. For those who would like to extend it a little more we have added Velvia 50 in all formats to the selection. There is no further manufacturing, expect sudden unavailability when stocks have finally depleted.
