Fujifilm to discontinue black & white bulk rolls, Rembrant V papers

This is bad news for everyone enjoying the great Fuji Neopan films by “rolling your own”, i.e. buying in 30.5m/100ft rolls. We are disappointed to inform you that Fujifilm has announced that they will drop Neopan 100 Acros 30.5m/100ft rolls, Neopan 400 Presto 30.5m/100ft rolls, Neopan 1600 Super Presto 30.5m/100ft rolls and Neopan SS 30.5m/100ft rolls from their product line in March 2007. We expect a lot of stock-up purchasing before that, leading to fears that the pipeline will run dry long before that and will do our best to counter it. We recommend that you stock up well in advance.

Note that this does not affect the Neopan film supplied ready in cartridges. Neopan will not disappear – for now (?).

Rembrant V fibre based papers are also affected.

MS-MAG 1.3N, holidays

One of the beautiful things about the art and craft of photography is that it never fails to progress. New products are introduced all the time, analog and digital alike.

We are pleased to feature yet another product by MS Optical R&D for you: the 1.3N finder magnifier for the Epson RD-1 and Bessa R series rangefinder cameras. Using an adapter supplied by Nikon, it can also be fitted to some of the Nikon DSLRs. And talking of the RD-1, we are also offering the original Epson carrying case for the RD-1.

Please note that Megaperls Web Shop will be on holiday from June 17th until July 1st. Orders placed after June 15th will be fulfilled on our return in early July. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but like everyone else we need a little break from it all sometimes.

UPDATE: We are back from our holiday and processing the backlog of orders with highest priority.

Fortia SP, Konica Pan, MS Mag 0.85W

Fortia SP ultra-strong colour reversal film has always been advertised as a limited edition film and stocks have finally run out. We hope you managed to try one of those out. Let’s see if there will be another re-run or even a permanent film.

To the disappointment of many, Konica-Minolta has recently withdrawn from the photography business. This means that the remaining film products will also disappear. Konica Pan in 120 format is already gone and the 35mm films will also go the same way very soon.

Saving the good news for last, we are pleased to announce that after obtaining a patent specialist’s opinion, the MS Optical 0.85W magnifier (“minifier”) for Leica M viewfinders does not infringe the existing Leica patents and can thus be offered for sale worldwide. The 1.15 and 1.35 magnifiers remain limited to all countries except Germany and the United States.

MS Optical R&D Leica viewfinder magnifiers

As a worldwide exclusive, we are extremely happy to be able to offer you unique viewfinder attachments for the Leica M rangefinder camera made by MS Optical R&D in Japan. Apart from an attractive price and great quality, these magnifiers also feature an dioptre adjustment facility. These magnifiers can turn your 0.72 viewfinder into a completely new camera without having to invest into a new body!

Please note that due to Leica patent restrictions, these products are not available to customers in Germany and the United States of America. We are sorry for any inconveniences caused by this. Legal opinion is currently sought on this matter.

Fuji price increase update

As you may have noticed, we have already started inserting the new prices for the products affected by the price rise. The current prices have been inserted into the shop as special offers with an expiry of 31 Jan 2006. At the moment these are estimates and will be updated as soon has the prices become known in detail.

We have built up a reserve of the most popular products to help maintain the current price levels just a little while longer, but you should not rely on availability at the current price beyond January. Naturally, all orders placed this month will be at the current price; after that it is subject to stock, so consider this as the final call.

Fujifilm to increase negative film and paper prices

Fujifilm has announced an increased in prices for some analog imaging products, such as negative film and papers. Effective from February 2006, the prices will increase as follows:

20%

A decline in demand for analog imaging products due to the advance of digital imaging, plus rising silver and crude oil prices are quoted as the reason behind this move.

Whether and to what extent those prices will be passed on to consumers is not known at this point. UPDATE: our supplier confirmed that their prices will rise accordingly as a result.
