The bland English title the publishers have given this large, luxurious volume of Eikoh Hosoe portraits -- ergo, Eikoh Hosoe Portraits -- not only doesn't match the Japanese, but it is nowhere near as inspiring. For Genesis: Artists in Their Youth, as we might loosely translate the Japanese, is in reality a rather inspiring book.
Some of the portraits assembled here will be well-known, such as the photo of poet Mutsuo Takahashi that graces the cover, but over half of the photos are previously unpublished. There are also a number of self-portraits sprinkled throughout.
Hardcover, with slipcase. 33cm x 25cm, 192 pages.
