Eikoh Hosoe

Eikoh Hosoe (b. 1933) came to prominence amidst a flowering of avant-garde arts movements in the 1960s, and his work has embraced the abstract over the literal throughout his career. The body has figured prominently in many of his best-known works, from his early Man and Woman and his erotically-charged portraits of novelist Yukio Mishima in Barakei to the prancing butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata in Kamaitachi. The World of Eikoh Hosoe is the place to start for an overview of Hosoe's career, or you may want to consider the delightful — and inexpensive — Hana Dorobou from 2009.
