Slowly Down the River, by Yasuhiro Ogawa
[slowly]
¥3,990

From 2002 - 2007 Ogawa made many trips to China to travel on the ferryboats plying along the Yangtze River, as a way of life along the great river was rapidly vanishing due to the Three Gorges dam project. This book is Ogawa's record of the boats, the towns and cities, and the people -- many of them in the midst of being displaced.

Shot with a deep, rich color palette, the book wonderfully straddles a fine line between the monumental and the personal, between the long view of landscapes and the intimacy of street portraiture.

Hardcover, 104 pages, 96 plates, afterword by artist translated into English.
