This the accompanying catalog for an exhibition of works by the Chinese photographer Liu Zheng, known for his "The Chinese" body of work. In fact, it was the inaugural exhibition for Tokyo's Zen Foto Gallery, and as such represents No. 1 in what is now an impressive series of catalogs and monographs of primarily Chinese and Japanese photographers.
After "The Chinese", Zheng's work took a dramatic departure from documentary to more fictive representations of figures. Here, in Dream Shock, Zheng presents a series of primarily nudes that are perhaps more shock than dream, but not something we can turn our eyes away from for long.
