Blue Period 1973-1979, by Akiyoshi Taniguchi
[blueperiod]
¥3,890

Taniguchi studied under acclaimed photographer Leo Rubinfien for four years, worked as a Buddhist minister in Los Angeles, and since 1988 has been the head priest of the Chohouin Buddhist Temple in Tokyo. Therefore it is probably not surprising that this book of photographs he took when he was between the ages of 13 and 19 shows a maturity and contemplative outlook at odds with our accepted notions of what a teenager's view should be.

You can see more of this book in this video introduction. A good introduction to Taniguchi is available in this 2011 Japan Times article.

Hardcover, in slipcase. 23cm x 25cm, 64 pages, 53 b/w photographs, includes English translations of afterword and photographer profile. Limited run of 500 copies. Published by Sokyu-sha, 2009.
