Issei Suda (b. 1940), graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 1962. From 1967 to 1970 he worked as a stage photographer for the avant-garde theatrical group Tenjō Sajiki, led by Shūji Terayama, before turning freelance in the early 1970s. Although in recent years his work has garnered wider and wider acclaim, his best-known work remains his 1978 Fushi Kaden (republished 2012).
