Tsuneo Yamashita has been visiting the Okinawan islands since he was a photo student, and Another Time On The Ryukyu Islands collects work shot there from 1983 to 2008. Masakazu Sugiura's Remontage make us appreciate just how beautiful and lush b/w photography can still be. Speaking of black and white photography, the most recent in Mitsugu Onishi's trilogy of wonderfully subtle and ironic Wonderland is a must-have.
Saboten to Shippo brings together Chieko Shiraishi's work done from 1998-2008, and there's not a single person photographed in the book. Go Goto's Day by Day presents over 80 beautifully saturated color landscapes taken from 2001 - 2008, mainly in the Kansai region of Japan. Masako Oguri TO-NUP presents us with a wonderful mixture of landscapes, portraits, and WPA-style interior shots to present Tono, an area that has become defined by the folktales every Japanese knows.
