Hiromi Tsuchida (b. 1939) had already earned a degree in engineering at Fukui University before he decided to enter the Tokyo College of Photography, graduated from there in 1966. Tsuchida established himself with Zokushin (1976, republished 2004) and later Counting Grains of Sand (1990, republished 2005), which explore the effects of Japan's rapid economic rise following World War II, but he has also released several books revolving around the cities of Hiroshima and Berlin.
