Selected by photographer Todd Hido as one of the best photobooks of 2012.
This catalog accompanied the remarkable exhibition held at the Izu Photo Museum in the Spring of 2012 of over 400 books from Nobuyoshi Araki's oeuvre, where attendees were allowed to physically look over the books.
In additional to an illustrated bibliography of all 454 Araki books printed up to the time of the exhibition (in English), there are essays from a host of critics, artists and others about Araki and his anarchic (or "Ararchic" if you prefer) approach to photography and the photo book. These are presented in Japanese along with photos of Araki, and reproduced in English translations at the end of the book. The book also includes a middle section of photographs with the simple title of "'11 3.11", the date of 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
Softcover, 12cm x 19cm, 291 pages. In Japanese and English.
