Well, I followed a link from photo.net if you're curious...

By the way I haven't looked at much of your stuff yet, but I think this portrait is excellent...

Thanks John. I am very surprised, because it is a ten fold increase (and rising)... hundreds. Normally I see the referrer in the stats, but not this time. But I am certainly happy about it!

The portrait is a good friend of mine, who played in Yokohama Minato-mirai Hall. Watching him prepare and perform gave me a lot of insights about photography as well, but that's material for another weblog entry...

Hi,
I recently posted a link to your website on photo.net forum (Leica forum) because, not surprisingly, there are many talks and expectations about the new Zeiss coming out. So when I saw you posted comments and images about it, I posted the link (see the message here: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00BVpy
I hope you do not find impolite that I did not ask you before doing so...

I found your website when I was looking for information about Fujifilm Presto 400 that I accidently exposed at 125 Iso...

I too, live in Japan (Fukuoka) and I too is a big fan of BW photography...
To make a long story short, my wife is Japanese and I came to live with her here this January. So I am still settling in!

I also discovered the magazine Natural Glow about two weeks ago. Although I find Yamagushi's work of good quality (I discovered his work for the first time in this magazine) I have to say I was impressed with the "public" portfolio, especially the two pictures by this man of 71 years old, on pages 63 and 71.
Congratulation for your website, I think it is very interesting and I would be happy to share more of our photographic impressions in the future.

I found your site via the photo.net link too. I actually live down the joban line from Kashiwa, at Kita-Matsudo. We ought to get together and shoot sometime.

By the way- are you on the japan photographer yahoo group?

Stephane, of course I don't mind. Since it is not a link, that explain the lack of referrers in the logs.

It is funny how curious people get when you talk about new equipment. I have scanned those negs lying loosely on the flatbed, curling and all... very sloppy, so this doesn't really say anything about the lens. The value of assessing the lens via pics on the web seems very questionable, but anyway, I developed another roll (outdated APX 400 in 1+50 Rodinal) and will scan them on the weekend). Or as some French site linking to me said: certaines très belles - mais cela ne prouve rien

Welcome to Japan. Fukuoka is a very nice place, so you should be fine. I am would like to see some photos of the place.

John, yes I am on the Yahoo! group, but I follow it only for practical Japan-related info. I was on the predecessor JP list until Specht & Friends kicked me out for speaking out freely. Their control freak attitude drove away most people who had anything to say, for example James @ Consumptive. I have decided to get less involved online, and so far it has worked quite well.

I've always bought the current NATURAL GLOW when I visit Japan -- I've had no luck finding it in the States. Kind of tricky to decide if it's an art mag or (at times) a glamour mag... but I still buy it either way when I can. Last one I saw featured Sawatari Hajime. Is COMMERCIAL PHOTO still published? We used to get that one in Hawaii but also no sign of it here these days.

You didn't say how the Planar went over with the missus... :)

I stumbled across your lovely site when looking for "famous outspoken Germans of our time". Here you go again, causing trouble wherever you go:

I was on the predecessor JP list until Specht & Friends kicked me out for speaking out freely

Free speech indeed! Very over-rated, IMHO.

Kevin, she was OK with it - I said Zeiss is a lot cheaper than Leica gear :)

Let me know your address if you want a copy, I owe you at least one. Commercial Photo is also still around.

I will approach the publisher and ask if they send it abroad, I think there is quite a lot of interest.

Thanks Dirk.
I have quite a lot of pictures from Fukuoka, since I have been coming here regularly for 2 years (ah! love...). But I will not get my scanner before 2 months at least. However, I'll try to consolidate the shots I have already scanned (they are widely sprayed on my computer) and post them on Photo.net. I'll send you the link.
I agree scanned photos are most of the time not relevant for judging of lens quality. Though as you say, new gear is very attractive. The thing I find the most attractive about these Zeiss newby is the 1/3 stop. Very useful when shooting slide.
Matane!

"Specht & Friends"

Ahh now that's Natsukashii...

Seeing as how you, Mr. Easterwood and I seem to be interested in similiar photograhic things- from subject matter to shooting with M6's, maybe we should get together for coffee or something sometime.
